Almost 10,000 people in the East of England
are employed directly in aerospace, with another
30,000 in the wider supply chain. |

leading Aerospace corporations – boasting
companies producing and exporting satellites,
space launch rockets, radar and avionics equipment,
as well as civil and military maintenance
and repair operations. |

aerospace accounts for 9% of all
businesses and provides employment
for 5% of people.
- It is a
growing sector, with annual growth
rates of 7.5% new businesses per
year.
- There are
323 aerospace and related businesses
in the Luton City Growth Area, employing
2,120 people.
- The number
of employees is steadily increasing
at a rate of 5% per year.

high-tech aerospace companies and facilities.
BAE’s new avionics engineering
facility at Capability Green Business
Park, and the 90 acre Butterfield Green
Innovation Centre are just an indicator
of the increasing levels of local investment
in this industry. |

area also benefits from strong research
and development capabilities including
Cranfield University, University of
Luton, Cranfield Technology Park, Millbrook
and Unilever’s research establishment,
which all help to attract highly skilled
personnel and world class companies
to locate in the area. |
